  In 1988, the public expression of the desire for independence and justice became increasingly frequent and more visible in Hungary. The accepted Hungarian term for the events leading up to the end of Soviet occupation and the one-party state in Hungary is "rendszerváltás", which means regime change. Internationally the Hungarian process is considered part of the Revolutions of 1989.
